YOGA THERAPY FOR TRAUMA

You’ve experienced trauma. We all have. Maybe you’ve tried psychotherapy. You’ve talked about it—reliving every excruciating detail. Maybe it helped for a while, or maybe it even made things worse. Perhaps the trauma is so significant or recent that your entire life feels different since it happened. Since 2010, comprehensive research has shown that traditional talk therapy for trauma often isn’t effective in many cases. Why? Because psychotherapy focuses on cognition and verbal processing—functions of the brain. However, trauma primarily affects the nervous system.

Trauma memories aren’t just thoughts; they’re experiences stored in your nervous system as undischarged energy. Over time, trauma can cause people to lose touch with their bodies, leading to feelings of numbness and disconnection—from themselves and the world around them. This Yoga Therapy modality incorporates Interoceptive Exposure, which allows you to gradually access and process difficult emotional states that once felt too overwhelming. Through a combination of yoga postures, breathwork, meditation, and supportive coaching, you’ll learn to connect with and release the stored energy of trauma. Yoga Therapy helps restore balance to your nervous system, enabling you to feel healthy and regulated, even in the face of stress.
